Looking at the three builds that are currently listed, I have my eye on the Moderate and the Pro. At some point in the future, I am planing on building a hackintosh. My intention is to make it dual boot (using separate Harddrives) into Mac OS X and into Windows (not sure which version of Windoze I would be using just yet). One of the main uses for this machine will me gaming (MMOs).

Question: Is the Pro build any better suited for this than the Moderate build? Will the extra money get me better performance?

Photoshop-workhorse - beginners project

Hello, i have a beginners question.

At first, please excuse my English. My motherslanguage is German.

I work as a professional freelance-retoucher.

At the Moment i have got this Mac Pro:

Mac Pro 3,1 2008 build

Intel Xeon 5400 QUADCORE 2.8GHz

ATI Radeon HD 2600

16 GB Ram.

The Mac is now much too slow for my New Customers Files.

This years PSB-Files average 10-15 GB.

These Photoshop Files are made fore huge prints for exhibitions.

At the Moment the Print size is about 400x200 cm at 200dpi.

And there are a LOT of Layers.

For the next years exhibitions my customer announced bigger Prints :-(

So my MacPro will be too small.

I cant afford an actual highend MacPro at the moment.

So my idea is to build and use a "Hackintosh" for the next years Projects.

I have never build a Computer before.

And i really know very little about this. (As most Macusers do not)

Do you think it will be a too much complicated project for me to build a photoshop-workhorse a "MacPro-Killer"?

I Think the hackintosh should have:

- at least 32 GB Ram.

- 2 SSDs as a Raid-0 for the scratch-disk.

- one SSD for the Systemdisk.

- A good Graphiccard for PS-CS5 with the possibility to plug 2 Displays. (one Quato 27 and a NEC 21)

- USB 3.0 and Ethernet

- working powermanagement and sleep if possible.

- Audio is not a must have but would be nice

Do you think the "Kakewalk Pro (Spring 2012)" could be modified to the needs written above?

And could i manage the building as a newbie with the help of the forum?

I hope you understand my english

thank you for your opinions!!!

I've been snooping around this site for a while but never had hardware compatible to run Mac on a PC. Right now I have a 2010 Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and want to build a computer from scratch that will run Windows for gaming and Mac for graphic design and everything else. I am trying to be as thrifty as possible while not compromising on quality. I've got the various parts suggested in the "Kakewalk Pro" Amazon list saved to my ebay and Amazon wishlists, but I wanted some advice before I start buying. Is there anything that could give me a little more bang for my buck that won't cause problems in Kakewalk setup? For example, I wouldn't mind spending another $25-50 on a video card that will run games a little smoother. If anyone with experience has some suggestions or advice I'd certainly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Hi everybody...
Thank you very much in advance

I´m not totally sure if this post could be consider as a topic for this forum (sorry if it doesn´t) but this is the question...

I need to use Boinxt tv for a small local tv station...
The logic answer if "why don´t you buy a Imac and don´t run risks?"
Because I need to use 3 cameras and Imac only have 1 firewire IEE1395 conector.

So the alternative is built a hackintosh...
There are plenty of sucessful histories about building hackintosh over here

so I would like to ask anybody if is possible anybody to try boinxtv for a while and tell if it work fine.

I tried to install Boinx under Snow leopard but it showed an error message telling it doesn´t recognize the video card but the card I have is superior to the one recomended

So... i need someone to go to boinxtv website dowload the demo and use it for 3 days (that is was the demo last)
if anybody tell me "yes... it work fine for me" then he (or she) can tell me the components of his(her) system so i could purchase it and get mine running fine..

Again..
Thank you very much
Have a very nice day....

First of thanks for taking the time to look at my build list. I'm switching to mac and have decided that because of my budget/frustration with apple for not offering the hardware configuration I want that I'll be building a Hackintosh.

This will be for personal use and Pro Tools 10 (native). Above all I'm interested in stability and as close to OOB support as I can get.

You'll notice that the build I want is pretty close to the Kakewalk pro build with a few mods to better suite my needs. My main question is about the mobo. I know it's on the compatabilit list but as I said I'm shooting for Stability and OOB support.

http://amzn.com/w/26IX20Y0MOX0W

thanks again for your time :)

I found this page

http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/

and you can download the Monolingual package... example.. you just tick all the languages you don't want, but if your primary one is english then make sure you don't select it! otherwise you will be re-installing your osx. I have tried this app and works great... just on languages I saves over 200MB`s I know it was much more but if you need every bit of MB on your SSD then why not.
Good Luck!
