Closest to 12-core Mac Pro?
  • Hey there. I've been thinking of upgrading my Pro Tools computer for some time, and have been looking at the 12-core Mac Pro. Problem is, the price xD
I have built a Hackintosh before, but its a long time ago.

So I was just wondering, if any of you have any advice on the closest possible (performance wise) kakewalk build, to the 12-core Mac Pro?

    Regards, Adam.
  • Unless you are working on really huge projects (hundreds of tracks, hundreds of plugins) you don't need a 12 core machine with pro tools. Really...

With one core i7 sandy bridge cpu (the newer core i7) you will have plenty of power. Just be sure to have lots of RAM and fast disks.

I have produced soundtracks and post production for TV series with my hackintosh and never needed a bigger cpu than my modest core i7 920. There were projects of 40 minutes long with like a hundred tracks, and I had plugins (eq, space designer, L3) in almost every track in logic.
  • here my config:

    Hardware:

    980X@4,5@1,37v en H24 (bench 5GHz...)
    X58A-UD7 rev.1

    GTX285 2Go Gainward
SSD OWC 200Go en sandforce SF1200

    under geekbench 64 i have a score of 22 000 pts!!!
it is pretty much better than a normal 12 cores Mac Pro!

Under LION i am 100% stable!!!

    Enjoy :)))
  • That's amazing kolagar! Sounds like a pretty sick machine you got there. Would you mind telling what motherboard you have?
  • Gigabyte X58A-UD7 rev.1

    everything is under Watercooling,
i am searching to sell it, cause i want a Mac book Pro 15"

the big number of threads is very very useful!
  • what about starting with something like this?

Intel 5500 Chipset/ICH10r *should* be supported by OS X.
I wonder if it could be done...
