reinstall from backup
  • hi ! I installed kakewalk os x snow leopard retail and all was OK ! After that i did a back up my system drive with disk utility. But now I need to reinstall OS. I restored my system drive from backup image I do before BUT I cannot start system at all ! I can start my system with Kakewalk USB stick attached to USB port, TRY to reinstall kekewalk to renewed system drive and reboot BUT without success (

What I should do with that problem ???
  • You have to re-install the bootloader. You can try the latest Chameleon bootloader form here, it will probably work:

  • @the451f
Disk utility wont give you a clone of your original drive. ??
Carbon copy clone is one of the programs that do an excellent Clone.
It will also make it bootable.
You may have to start again, Sorry

  • OK ! Very thanks for your answer. I have a carbon copy cloner but unfortunately I thought DiskUtility could do the same...
  • Though, Kernel Panic - do you know, could Carb CC make drive bootable ONLY when I copy from drive to drive ?
OR with Carb CC I can make an bootable backup image, save it and if something goung wrong restore my system from it with DISK UTILITY ?

When system crashes, I have to boot from flash drive or mac os install dvd, run disk utility and do the work - restore sys backup. I dont know how I could run Carbon Copy Clone on THIS STATE - before my system is installed.

Or do you think there is a way to run CCC when I boot with flash or dvd ?
  • My understanding is that CCC will not make it bootable. I tried myself with my SL installation and I had to re-install the bootloader.
  • I did it !) Went to http://www.kakewalk.se/2010/12/06/back-to-usb-kakewalk-3-1-released/ read about Chameleon 2.0 rc5 r643 bootloader, get and reinstall it and so all ok now.
  • Carbon Copy Cloner Does NOT make a bootable hackintosh drive. You must reinstall bootloader with Chameleon Wizard onto the backup drive.

I tried using Multibeast to install the Chimera bootloader and it did not work properly (I may have missed a step doing that). However using the Chameleon Wizard found here worked great:

here is a link to explain exactly how did that step:
