Just wanted to report a successful install using the Kakewalk CD method and a Retail 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD. Updated to 10.6.4 without a hitch.
EX58-UD5 i7-920 GTX 285
Followed all the instructions, and got help here, so thanks very much. This was the easiest, most hassle-free install ever!
A couple things:
1. When updating make sure to replace SleepEnabler.kext beforehand with an updated version that is compatible with 10.6.4. The new version can be foudn here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=72783
2. My ethernet was not working, and I removed realtek1000.kext from the S/L/E folder and now it works like a charm. I think it's because it should be using realtek1000SL.kext, but for some reason it defaults to the other one.
Anyways, I'm stoked to have everything going so smoothly. Kakewalk is the best!
I'd like to second that... except my ethernet has worked right out of the box. I have only updated to 10.6.3, though... still waiting to make sure I do the right Kext stuff for the 10.6.4 update.
This is probably going to be a stupid question but what the hell, only way to know...
I am looking to build a new rig, and I want a core i7 rig. I have been debating between the X58A-UD7 and the X58A-UD5. I know the differences between the two is minimal, but is there a variant of the X58 boards listed somewhere? I only ask as you say its the X85-UD5 you are using, so is there a difference between that and the X58A-UD5? I hope this makes sense, and if its simply you guys are not using the letter, please let me know, I feel stoop-id lol...

Hi MacTech84
Go to the Gigabyte website and you they have a compare function for any motherboard or the X58A-UD7 and the X58A-UD5 and get a printout

Ray
I already have the comparison of those boards, what I am asking about is the boards that include the "A" in the title, X58-UD5 vs X58A-UD5. From what I can tell, and it could be spelling on my end, there is only the EX58-UD5, and the X58A-UD5. I think I am just confused now due to the models being so close... DOH!
regarding the difference between EX58 and X58A lines what strikes me first is SATAIII and USB 3.0 support on the X58A one... A for advanced? it seems to be the same for all Gigabyte X58 cards....
also LAN chip seems to change from 8111D to 8111E with newer revisions, with some problem issues reports...
I plan to build myself one Hac as well, EX85-UD5 seems better option, as USB 3.0 will be pretty unusable in MacOSx for some time [i expect at least a a year till iMac will have it... >> first MAC drivers are alive] meaning it will hardly support this onboard usb. controller... -
i think it will be cheaper and easier to buy PCI extension card with both SATAIII and USVB 3 when the time is right...

Hello,
I have the same board and Cpu and used the same install metod but I have some issue to resolve: 1. CPU temp around 60 Celsius on idle and more than 80 Celsius on idle. I try several NullCPU...kext but temp stay high. which version do you have? 2. Front panel partiali do work, only headphones, not Mic and its either headphones or Intenal speaker. In system preferences I see all the jacks, but for output I can use only Internal speakers. Did you manage to enable all jacks? 3. Sleep is partially working: sometimes waks up, but with warrning that Discs not properlly ejected, and after that Restart is not working. Please help if you have some ideas? Tnx
