multi video card
  • Hi,
I would like to install 2 HD 6870 or two HD 5870.. someone have experiences about that?

    I would like to obtain 4 or 6 DVI-I (or DVI-D) out.
In this moment i have installed 1 HD 5870 eyefinity and it work great but the MDP connectors have many problems in the signal transport ( i tried several MDP adapters, passive, active and with usb power cable) but the transport over 30 mt is poor.

    Best,
    Emanuele
  • My understanding is that two 6870's of exactly the same brand and model *might* work, but I haven't seen information of people actually using this, otherwise multiple ATI cards do not work. But using multiple Nvidia cards works with the latest Chimera bootloader. I'm running 4 cards to get 8 outputs (a mix of DVI and HDMI). The biggest issue with this approach is finding 4 cards that run on hackintoshes and physically fit into adjacent slots.
  • Hi nutjob,
which mainboard and video card are you using in your configuration?

when you write "otherwise multiple ATI cards do not work" are you saying that multiple and different ATI card together don't work?

    tnx
  • It doesn't mater which motherboard you use and you can use any Nvidia cards that work individually. The cards I use actually have compatibility problems individually. Yes, different ATI card together don't work.

The important thing is that you use the latest Chimera bootloader.
  • very thanks!

is this not a good solution? the video cards don't have the right space to cool down?
  • LOL, SLI doesn't work on the Mac. Do you have unlimited money to spend?
  • Actually - if you're looking to buy a board, I'm running the lower model the GA-X58-UD3R. It gives me 4 of 8x PCIx, but only two slots are double width from memory.
  • Hi,
i know that SLI doesn't work, but I am looking for a solution with many DVI out to assemble a mediaserver. I don't need a SLI functionality but 4,6 or 8 DVI out that i can connect to CAT5 DVI extender or optical fiber cable.

    Thanks for your attention
  • Ok as far as my setup is going with 2 6870 (they wont work in crossfire thought but i take that you want more monitors hooked up for viewing) WORKS! I have a powercolor as my primary and a xfx as my secondary and works wonderful. I get 4 monitors no problem on a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3, The only trouble I am having is network issues no matter what I tried to install (linux to mac or Multibeast It shows its there but wont pick up an internet signal, so Im stumped on that one. But If you want the exact model numbers of GPU cards email me and I will give it to ya I bought at New Egg, And people I always ask questions and you never respond to me You guys all hate me or something? I know I know Im a sensitive beast....
  • supasike - I tried getting my two 6870's working together but no go. Which version of the OS are you using. Do you have any special kexts installed?
  • The thing was, when I had an image of 10.7.2 with kakewalk, it would crash all the time. When I made an image of 10.7.3 with kakewalk 4.1.1 it went threw without a hitch.I also used a Powercolor and an xfx if u want exact model numbers i can provide--I will take a look at my new egg invoices
  • supasike, do you have all DVI ports working?
I have installed 2 HD6870 but only 1 DVI for card work properly..

    some suggestions?

    tnx
  • The upper DVI ports don't work on any 6870 cards, use the HDMI ports with an adaptor instead.
