If Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 (Rev 2) is recommended config, why so problematic?

If Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 (Rev 2) is recommended config, why is it problematic? 3 issues noted below that require additional steps after install for 1. network, 2. sleep/hibernate, 3. sound. (The latter 2 probs I have yet to solve.)

I got the audio to work with a Kakewalk re-install (details in the discussion thread above). Now trying to get the safe-sleep/hibernate to work:
