I'm fairly new to the Kakewalk method. I have used a few custom installs before for my pc. Now I would like to install my hackintosh with an MBR There are several mods for this posted on the internet: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=262457
But this requires to exchange 2 files (OSinstall.mpkg and OSinstall (script)) And ofcourse when you exchange those, some functionality in the OS is lost (I believe my ethernet stopped working) So is there a possibility to add the MBR support manually? Or is there anyone to tell me how to do this?
So I finally did it myself, For other who are trying to attempt this: Don't.. Or use the folowing steps:
Go into your OSX installation (allmost any installation will do, even a VMWare virtual machine) Use the kakewalk app to create a USB Install. Download the following: blog.nawcom.com/Lion_OSInstall_GM.tar.bz2 extract the Nawcom's patch for MBR to the Desktop. open the installation media and replace
/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg with the one provided and also replace
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/OSInstall with the one provided
Also make sure you have a windows 8 install medium. Now unplug all your harddrives except the one you are going to install windows 8 and OSX Lion on. Plugin the kakewalk usbstick and boot from it. Boot the OSX installation and open the Diskutility. Partition the harddrive, use OPTIONS to make it a MBR disk Then make 3 partitions The first: as small as possible (1.07 GB? but make ik 300mb and it will automatically make it 1.07GB) - make it FAT The second: this will be your WINDOWS partition so choose your size 30GB+ and format it as FAT The third: this will be your OSX partition so choose your size 30GB+ and format is as HFS+
After the partitioning is done, DONT INSTALL OSX!, reboot the pc with the windows 8 install medium in it Install windows 8 on the second partition and go through the menus untill you are fully booted.
Now boot the OXS usb and you should be able to install OSX Lion on the third partition. Booting into Mac might be a problem, so boot into osx using the kakewalk usb stick. After the first full boot you will notice you ethernet is not working, and some other hardware might be buggy. Open your usb drive, and open the kakewalk app, use the upgrade function, and let it update the drivers. After this, download the latest chimera pkg and install it. After installing chimera it will still not boot properly, so you will have to manually copy boot1h!
Unpack the chimera pkg but dragging it on the unpkg app then find the boot1h file in the folder: Chimera>usr>standalone>i386>boot1h And copy it to your kakewalk usb drive
If everything went well, and you reboot without a disc or usb drive, or any other installation medium. You should be presented with chimera, with your boot options and you should be able to boot windows 8 and lion!
