Kakewalk 4.5
  • Kakewalk 4.5 is out. Download it from http://www.kakewalk.se

Please let me know if you have any feedback or if you run into any issues.

Also, a big thanks to everyone for supporting this project!

  • I love your project it made installing OSx real easy. I got everything backed up so i'm going to try installing ML 10.8 when it come's out later today. Let's hope that works. Also I'm running a GA-z68x-ud3h-b3 board 16 gig's of ram a core I seven cpu, a ATI radian 6870 and a OCZ vertetext 120 SSD. thanks so much.

  • Great to see a new version. Thanks for all the effort you put into this awsm project. Kakewalk for ease of use wins hands down. Can't wait for custom versions! Chapeau mrjanek

  • An update howto would be very much appreciated! There's a lot of users out there running Lion and Kakewalk 4.0. Instructions on how to upgrade to 4.5 and ML would help a lot!

  • The instructions/howto are in the download. :)

    My personal experience was such.
    1. I made a full Time machine backup.
    2. Then ran the cakewalk 4.5
    3. From the installer I formatted my boot drive.
    4. Installed ML on the boot SSD
    5. restarted using the cakewalk boot usb drive
    6. hit enter for boot options
    7. chose my boot drive
(after about 6 hours of f'ing around with different processes I came up with this)
    8. had issues with "step 4" in the kakewalk 4.5 instructions. I ended up not doing this step. I ran the OSx86 utility for my mobo. GIGA Z68X-UD3H-B3 Bios 12. and ran the accompanying chameleon boot loader. After that it would boot fine after I removed the USB Kakewalk disk. Otherwise I would get boot0 errors if I tried to run step 4 in the instructions. I am running the HD3000 Graphics with 480MB allocated in the BIOS, 8 GIG 1866mhz ram.
    9. Booted into ML
    10. created a new user
    11. logged into that user and ran the migration assistant and imported from my time machine backup.
    12. Done

  • I seem to get this error when running it in a virtualized copy of OS X Lion.

  • I just installed via the instructions on my EX58-UD5... It's on my test partition and it seems to be very stable.  A few things I learned in the process that might help others:

    1. When you reboot (or auto-reboot) your machine after installing ML, it seems to hang in the initial opening of the OS.  I don't know why, but it did the same thing on my MacbookAir.  So I think it might be normal?
    2. I also was able to install using the USB drive, but when I got to the final installation process step #4, things weren't booting up properly using the USB drive (hanging as described above... maybe I should have been more patient). So I just booted into my lion partition, and installed Kakewalk to my test partition, and it works great! In fact, I've done this whole entire post using mountain lion dictation. (I would note that the mountain lion dictation is considerably slower than using Dragon dictation.)
    3. while I'm very excited about some of the new features within mountain lion, it feels kind of sluggish compared to lion. So if you really like the snappiness of Lion, you may want to take pause before installing Mountain lion.
    4. Kakewalk works perfectly though! Based on the slowness I described of Mountain lion, I would expect an update pretty soon.
  • Is it going to be possible to enable airplay mirroring using an i7 with a 9800GT? I am trying to figure out if it's hardware limitations, or if it is the defaults set by Kakewalk...

  • 5star, the feature depends on Intel QuickSync technology. Your i7 will have to be at least Sandy Bridge. It has nothing to do with the GPU you are using.

Might still not work, mind you. Probably some flag somewhere will have to be set for the OS to even offer the option to use it.
  • Lockerj114

Where did you get that "utility" for your motherboard?  I have the same one...

    Thx

  • Is Ivy bridge ok with Kakewalk? It doesn't look like Kakewalk discriminates against any processors according to the compatibility page.

If that's the case, Mr Janek, would that fix the issue with airplay mirroring?
  • I just realized that the socket on the i7 930 is different than the Ivy bridge.  I would consider switching my motherboard, though to step up to the Ivy Bridge, but I would like another 6 RAM slotted board, and I know Mr Janek gets credit if we buy through his affiliate link.  Mr Janek, do you want to give a link to what you would recommend as I upgrade for best Mountain Lion compatibility?

  • Cannot create a usb stick, nothing happens for hours. Tryed to create from 10.8 and 10.7.4 dmgs. 4.1.1 works perfectly with 10.7.4 dmg. When trying to use 4.5 only few seconds my usb stick is flashing with LED, then nothing.

  • Cant install: before showing the install screen it turns white and only cursor is there.

I think its becouse ATI 6950. Will it be fixed?
  • @Mikodzi I posted a solution for this here:

Please let me know in my thread if it solved it for you.
  • hello,

i tried to install the mountain lion with kakewalk 4.5 but if i will start from the usb, the computer make an restart. On my PC is currently the lion installed...

Please help me, thanks a lot
  • gamer12, this problem can be related about your BIOS version (perhaps related to overclocking). Check in the GigaByte website about the lastest version of your board's bios and update it, BUT BE CAREFULL DOING THIS, download the manual and go step by step. (Do this under your own risk)

It happened to me, try to install and I endup in a boot loop, because my bios version was F3 and the lastest version was F13. After the update no boot loop.

    Cheers.

  • edenshaw

thanks for your answer.... now it works.

i have already an other problem. the hackitntosh starts from the usb but i have only an white screen and i can not install the osx.
whats ist the problem about this? have you got an idea?

    thx
  • Hi gamer12,

I don't fully understand the new scenario you're describing.

    1) You turn on your computer
    2) It boots from the usb
    3) You don't see any progress bar at all, but instead a entire white screen
    4) It hangs and you are force to turn off the computer manually

Is that correct? If so, the only thing I can think of, is related to the bootloader. But beyond that I don't know what can be the problem, because there's no verbose mode to diagnose. Can you try a different bootloader? and after you are in the selection of the drive that will be initialized, connect the thumb drive that contains Kakewalk and select it or connect it before the boot but be sure is not the first one in the order of the booting.

At the end I could not use Kakewalk (due to different errors). I endup using UnitBeast and MultiBeast by following this guide: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/10/unibeast-install-mac-os-x-lion-using.html

I could successfully install Mountain Lion (with the little problem of don't detecting the DVD drive (error 70012), something I can live with)

I know it can be frustrating but don't give up, I installed (between Lion and Mountain) a total of 8 times OS X. Be patient and eventually you will nail it. ;)

Sorry I can't help you with the white screen, but anything else just post it here and we'll look at it

    Cheers.
  • mrjanek ......I need help to re-create ML usb stick.

Why? Well, i install ML on my system and it works perfect but I then format the USB (i have 2 the same usb stick, and i pick the ML stick to format, silly me, right???).

So, i tried to re-create the USB again but i can not run kakewalk 4.5 again, i think because it is ML now and does not let me.

Is there anyway to make the usb again? I have no back up snow  or lion....

    thanks for any infor
  • Hey capper308, I got the utilities over at OSx86. They are a great resource for all motherboards/graphics card combinations. The people over there (whom probably overlap with this site...) are trying to build driver and os support for many peripherals and add-on cards. Check them out. You need to register with the site in order to download anything.

  • Unsuccessful install with fresh mountain lion image from mac laptop.

    Hardware z68xp-ud3, i5 2500k, amd 6850.
No ethernet nor sound, fix used to get around 10.7.4 issue did not work this case with 10.8.

Reverting to 10.7.4 backup for now, is there anybody else with this board having any success?
  • I need help with boot0 error, i tried many ways, 2 usb sticks, the new kakewalk file from mrjanek and still CAN NOT create the usb installer. Does anyone have a way to fix this???

My system: X58A-UD3R ver. 2, FH bios, GT240 video card, 6GB ram. Any reply would be much thanks :).
  • I have a problem with installing ML. Booting from USB makes a Reboot until I changed GraphiksEnabler to Yes.
Installing works without Problem than. But no it Reboots when I start from Hard disk. No difference if graphiksenabler is yes or no.

My Hardware is a I5, Gigabyte H67M-D2-B3 8Gb Ram with GeForce GT 240. This works fine with Lion and Kakewalk 4.x.
Also don´t run when I Install Kakewalk 4.5.

    please help

    Joerg

  • mrjanek,
here kakewalk fails for the first time. kakewalk crashes (!) after having chosen the lion (10.7) image and clicking "ok" after admin pw typing. trying this on a usb stick (16gb, mac os extended journaled) from a macbook with snow leo.
also found kakewalks "app storish" behaviour (mandatory web connection) somehow uncomfortable. i would appreciate a legacy download corner for previous kakewalk versions...

    -
edit one: performing the install with a lion machine seems to work.. backwards compatibiliy would be nice though..
    -
edit two: everything back fine then... did a kakewalk install on an existing installation. would still love to have an internet-independant kakewalk installer, just in case.
thanks anyway and again, mr janek

    :)

Install works and I can boot but can´t install Kakewalk because network not run.
  • I can't even get the 4.5 app to run. Tried it on 3 Macs. "Application has quit unexpectedly" error.

  • oops - just read minimum system requirement is Lion.

  • you need to add booth file to your hardrive with terminal. Follow this guide
    http://www.macbreaker.com/2012/02/hackintosh-boot0-error.html

Also may need to set graphics enabler to YES

  • thank, Waldmac, for a moment I was panicking :)

  • Janek: this is odd.  I made a 10.8.0 installer using Kakewalk 4.5.0 and it booted perfectly.  Now I've updated my image to 10.8.1 and have tried to create a Kakewalk 4.5.0 installer USB from 10.8.1, and it won't come up.  The initial boot menu appears, but when it starts booting, the display blanks out and never returns.

    I'm using a EP45T-UD3LR and a GTS 250 video card.  Any thoughts?

  • set graphics enabler to YES

  • Why does kakewalk 4.5 want to accept incoming connections when I use it to make a bootable USB?  My firewall gave me an option to allow or to deny this request.  I can see outgoing requests to ping a server to make sure it is up-to-date, but what's up with the incoming requests?  Anyone else have their ML firewall up and have got this request upon making a USB?

  • Kakewalk 4.5 will not boot, i get boot errors. Then i used iboot to boot up and then load the kakewalk mountain lion thumb drive, it makes it past the gray screen where it loads all the files and then goes black and restarts computer as it crashed.

I have tried Kakewalk 4.1 with Lion, and it works every single time. Same computer specs and everything.

I then tried "unibeast" and mountain lion installs.

There is something wrong with kakewalk 4.5 and mountain lion install.

    OVERVIEW:

    Kakewalk Lion 4.1.1 installs

    Unibeast Mountain Lion installs

Kakewalk Mountain Lion 4.5 Does NOT install any way or load.

  • "Why does kakewalk 4.5 want to accept incoming connections when I use it to make a bootable USB?"

Because Kakewalk 4.5 uses a repository system for the necessary files.
In short, this means that when you download Kakewalk 4.5, only an "app" is downloaded, but you don't have the required files for your specific mainboard. Once you select your mainboard during the process of creating the bootable USB, that's when Kakewalk accesses it's own repository, and downloads necessary files for your mainboard.

  • Hello Mrjanek,

I am trying to install 10.8.2 on my ga-ep45-ud3p... I can make the boot/install media just fine... I had a hard time getting it to boot (and in fact, could not get the usb install key to boot at all, regardless of the boot flags that I used), and after some research found out that there was a conflict with the ML installer and the ati6000 series cards.  As per the advice on a couple of sites, I deleted this kext from s/l/e on the Kakewalk usb install key.  I backed it up before doing so.

I booted using GraphicsEnabler=No, and got the standard 1024x768 screen and did the install.  All went well.  I rebooted when done from the Kakewalk usb key, picked my new installation, again using GE=No, and the system booted fine.  I had no wired network, but my airport card worked well.

I know from a previous install on another system that after installing the 10.8.2 combo update, and the the 10.8.2 supplemental update that the ATI6000Controller.kext gets replaced by a newer one, and upon reboot, I have get full graphics.

EDIT:  I think the kext gets replaced with the combo update, before the supplemental update is applied.  I seem to recall having full and normal video after rebooting (as is required) after the combo update.

But, after initial install, and before installing the combo update and supplemental update, I tried to run Kakewalk (keeping in mind that I do have wireless access) from the USB key.  It accessed the net for a list of available motherboards, and it allowed me to pick my board.  Upon execution of the Kakewalk install, all seemed to be going well, except that the install indicator wheel just kept spinning.  I left it overnight and it was still spinning.  I tried this a couple of times after fresh reboots and this was consistently the result.

So, I have a few questions for you, if I may:

    1.  What revision of the ga-ep45-ud3p is the DSDT for?  I have revision 1.6 and understand there is a significant difference between it and the 1.0/1.1 revisions.

    2.  If this is not the DSDT for revision 1.6 of this board, would it be hard/possible for you to patch a revision 1.6 DSDT if I were to supply it? Or, do you by chance have a useable one available?

    3.  Could the forever spinning install wheel be the result of my installing to a SSD drive?  If so, how do I fix that?

    4.  I have played around with other installers over the years.  I have noticed that the MyHack installer has a feature which allows you to remove problematic kexts. Is this something that you would recommend doing after a Kakewalk install?  Does Kakewalk already do this?

The idea of a one-stop-shop for OS X 10.8.2 installation is SO VERY appealing... if I could just get it to work.

I recently did an install to a GA-G41MT-S2PT 775 board, and it was a royal pain to get things up and working, as there was no listing for it in your compatibility list.  BTW, while I have you, is there another board listed in the compatibility list that could be used to install the GA-M41MT-S2PT motherboard?

I realize that I have thrown a whole lot at you at once.  I've googled the net pretty extensively without much success in finding answers to these questions.

Any and all help is GREATLY APPRECIATED.

    Thanks Very Much,

    Namidar

I have just joined Kakewalk forum,.
    I have downloaded Kakewalk 4.5

    There is a problem

    I have sent a donation 10 Euros.
The download is missing some parts.

    I t does not work.
Total size is 753 KB  - it should be 810 KB

Do I receive a link to download the full version?

Does the program run on Win 7?

    What am I doing wrong?

    I need help

    Thanks

    Invin
  • The kakewalk software allows you to create bootable media from which you install OS X on a pc.

  • I understand this - but have I received the whole file?

  • Try downloading it again, deleting the old download first, or just try using it. The only version available is the one you downloaded. There is no "full" version.

  • I've created usb flash drive with 10.8.2. MoBo Gigabyte EX58-UD4P, VGA radeon  4870. Booting from flash drive starts, even change my screen to full resolution, but then stops and key no blinking anymore... I have only gray ML background picture with no comments on screen. Can i see the log during booting?

  • Same problem as Shadow_Cluster with powercolor radeon hd 4870 1gb and ga-ep-45-ds3l...

  • not sure what happened in the new version, but my older 10.7.2 stick that i first used works perfectly.  the new 4.5 with ML 10.8.X does not install for some reason.

  • Any Idea what happened? Is Kakewalk alive and we'll see something here?

10.8.x is not working, new motherboards not added... Are we done here?
